Heat issue: I'll post the coding for the heater issue when I get back to the computer I scanned it with. Instrument cluster: I couldn't find a Jetta GLI available in Canada (or US) at the moment. Are you suggesting a European instrument cluster? MFSW: As a side note to the steering wheel swap, the right hand blanks on the 2011 Jetta wheel are removable and there is a plug available for the ribbon cable. Interestingly this is similar, but not the same as the connections on the GTI wheel which looks like the same part but has several additional plugs to make connections. I assume, but can't be sure they're for the paddle shifters. Last edited by CanMk6Jetta; 02-09-2011 at 11:37 AM. Reason: fixed quoting. |

Can you take pics of the MFSW connections? Not only would it help explain things but I could add it to a FAQ article and it would help many other people. If you do a unique writeup for the mk6 Jetta MFSW it will qualify for the writeup contest. Please see the general forum for rules-guidelines. It should have step by step pics, part numbers, etc. The part numbers are always printed somewhere on the part. Here are some tips on how to read the part numers. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/V...-explained.htm
mk6 Jetta GLI is not yet in the country but it will be, specs are out but I don't have part numbers for it yet. Full screen DIS, Sport MFD w/left and right buttons. |

I have attached a picture of the left side only MFSW connection. The one with buttons both sides looks identical, but the three empty areas have unused plug connectors. For context this is the bottom of the wheel under the air bag.

At least on the mk5 steering wheels, the paddle shifters plugged into the MFSW buttons, then the MFSW buttons plugged into the box that you see there. Just to be clear, the plug for the paddle shifters was on the MFSW buttons.

Chitty, assuming I have the right steering wheel module and don't need to swap, is it possible to just add the buttons by removing the blanks on my JSW wheel and replacing them with buttons? Without removing the steering wheel?

Assuming that the module is correct AND your blanks have screws to remove them instead of being moulded in, I don't see why not, without removing the steering wheel. However, it's possible there is some electronic compatibility problem between the module and buttons. Want to try

wow this is great! Thank you so much for al lthe hard work.
I've been wanting to do this for a while as well and just like yourself i do have the Jetta Highline+NAv as well. So just to recap what you have done: - You just purchased the GTI steering wheel with MFSW on both sides and just swapped the unit? Did you also use the air bag module that you mentioned before? Did you use the air bag? I would like to change the steering wheel to one that has MFSW buttons on both sides as well, but i would prefer the regular Golf wheel as long as it has the buttons on both sides. I can get one for around 250, instead of the GTI's 450 price tag. Would you be able to please document everything you have done so far. Also have you looked into Passat TDI cluster yet? not sure what the part number is, but i think it should work. I know the Golf and Polo are different. I have taken my cluster out today and documented pictures. I'll post up soon. |

mo_focus,
I swapped the wheel and air bag, not the module. No coding required. Both were from MK6 vehicles which is why i suspect no issues. I look forward to your cluster removal pictures/instructions, I've been tempted to do that myself to figure out if the buttons are part of the dash or the cluster. I have a Canadian Highline which is different from the US. Is yours also Canadian? The Canadian version has KESSY - I read elsewhere that it was in the cluster and needed another KESSY cluster. You sound optimistic about the Passat cluster - I hope you're right as I still want to do this! I followed the documentation on this site to change the steering wheel - it really was easy, took about an hour. The hardest part was getting the airbag out because you have to pry back the spring from behind and pull the airbag out a little so the spring stays back and you can do the other side. |

Here are the pictures of the cluster being taken out.
Its not hard, but a bit tricky. Make sure you do take out the vents with the trim work that way all the vent parts stay within and dont fall out! I used the torqs to get the two cluster screws out, that was the only tool needed for this task. Also used a butter knife to pry the trim out. From the pictures you will see where you need to apply the pressure to get the cluster out. Also on the far right corner where the passenger side vent is, there were two clips, but they fell out! i didnt care about those bc they trim vent back snug still. BTW i do have the Canadian highline as well, but i guess mine has the NAV and yours doesnt, but i think most of the stuff should be the same considering dealers would be able to add NAV on site. As for KESSY i was the one who first said you need to have KESSY cluster, but i was told that might not be required, i guess we just have to wait and see. I really wonder if the Passat cluster would fit, that would be our only hope, unless the Euro Jetta TDI has the full MFD as well. Here are the pictures. Let me know if you have any questions. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
