When oil lights come on, you don't continue to drive...very poor advice. That probably did the car in. You pull over immediately and check the oil or have it towed to the dealer. Any driving with low oil levels or low oil pressure is a big no-no. Sorry to hear about your loss! It still sucks regardless.

Yes still under warranty but only the remainder of the original. My Wife told me the light went off then I told her to bring it home. The dealer didn't seem concerned at all. No codes on oil lights from what the dealer tells me. Seems funny right after the oil change.

Is vw fixing your car free of charge? And forgive I live in Canada and it's 80000km bumper to bumper and 100000km on the powertrain. Would that not be covered? Also you should still have the car under warranty until those 2 numbers run out.

Who did the oil change, the drain bolt may have not be tightened correctly, or it got stripped out when they tried to put it back in. That is the first place I would check. If the dealer did the oil change, I would go after them if there is evidence of a loos drain plug or stripped one.

Did you check the oil level at any time ? Especially when the wife got home after you told her to drive it home and before you drove it to the dealer.

You won't see any problems with the engine, unless you dismantle and inspect/measure the bearings. Or send the oil to the lab. |

A quick check of the owners manual tells me that you had the Engine oil pressure light come on and give the three warning tones. The manual advises that you Stop the Engine, and check the oil level. The manual goes on to say that if the warning light flashes even though the oil level is correct, Do not keep driving. Contact your Volkswagen dealer. Did you at anytime check the oil level in your car? If not, how is this Volkswagen's fault? cheers dave parker |

At any time did you actually check the oil level? A flashing oil pressure light means pull over and turn the engine off NOW and don't start the engine until the problem has been fixed. If you did in fact check the level and it was OK, you should still not start the engine until the cause of the flashing light is investigated and fixed. If you just had an oil change it could mean the oil plug or filter were not done directly correctly and you have an oil leak. Loss of oil = low oil pressure. |
