Default Block Heater, 2011 Jetta TDi

Strange looking plug located beside the fog lamp of my 2011 Jetta TDi. Is there an adaptor I am needing? I'm heading to northern Ontario and it's near -25, I'd like to plug it in overnight.
Thx

Mines a 2011 Golf with the same plug in. There should be a cord that came with the car for plugging into that socket. The other end plugs into a 110V receptacle. Is it in the back of the car under the cover where the spare tire is ? If not go to the dealership where you bought it and see if they have one they can give you. They may laugh at you.

Exclamation Replacement heater block heater cords - source?

I have a new 2012 Golf TDI and it uses the same plug/cord in-line block heater. It seems to work well, much better than the old block heaters. The same is used on the 2012 Jetta. This plug arrangement was also used on the 2011 and perhaps on slightly earlier model years.

HOWEVER, today my snow blower decided to eat my cord - thought it was well clear but ... So I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new cord at the dealership. I was told that they tried to stock cords last year but couldn't. If I needed a new cord, I would have to buy a complete block heater assembly just to get the cord. I could not believe it! After I stopped laughing, I realized he was serious! How anal can VW be not to stock replacement cords! Perhaps they think people wouldn't lose them, or they wouldn't get damaged or whatever?

My question, finally, does anyone know a source for the replacement cords? In Canada or the US?
Thanks...
Ron

Take a picture of your cord end. I tried to find it in the parts catalog but I couldn't. Look carefully on the cord, if you see a part number like this

Then please post it here so I can archive it. It should have 9 or more digits of numbers and letters. This is the heater cord for an Audi A3 TDI.

If worse comes to worse, can you splice a suitable extension cord to your mangled OEM cord? Using heat-shrink tubing to cover the splice should make it waterproof.

I suspect that the Jetta & A3 use the same cord, which chittychittybangbang posted. World Impex lists it for around $140. As far as I know, no one's yet found another source for the car end connector.

Default OEM number and pic

Thanks for the info. At least it is a start. I will post two photos of the cord end. As 3waygeek indicated (and thank you for that link), the OEM part number is 5K0-965-539. The cut one has a Calix logo on it. There are also other numbers surrounding the part number itself, ETL intertek 3118025 - don't know how they relate other than the obvious that both companies were involved in the manufacture of the cord. Amazing!

I have also learned that they are available at Audi and some VW dealers at $163 CDN or US but the link 3waygeek provided had them for $136 (at World Impex). I plan to repair this one - it won't look pretty but who cares so long as it works. Then I'll scout the junk yards. Might be lucky. It is incredible that a short power cord with a fancy end that might cost $30 or $40 (absolute max), we are charged 400 to 500% that. There's something wrong with VW and Audi if they can't source a good quality cable (they call a Harness) for a hell of a lot less.

Haven't had time to follow-up check on the Calix trademark or with Intertek, if they would sell directly to us unfortunate people.

If I find anything cheaper, I'll update. Don't lose or damage that cable! Thanks guys.

Thanks, Jim. Unfortunately, it has already been taken. Will keep my eyes on Kijiji and eBay. Appreciate the notice. Thanks, Ron

Thanks for the pic. This is confirmation that the Golf-Jetta-A3 all use the same block heater cord. I'm pretty sure that the block heater itself is also the same since the engines are pretty much the same.

Anyone with a 2012+ Passat have their block heater cord part number?

At least you Canadians can get a stock block heater. It makes no sense to me that we can't get the same thing here in the US.
