Default Bigger Fuel Tank for 2012 JSW?

Hi all, is there any way to get a bigger fuel tank for a 2012 TDI Jetta Sportwagen? Swap with 18.5 Gallon Passat tank? Something custom? Where? Not possible? Not a good idea? Looking for answers. Thanks.

I wanted to develop an add on tank that would fit above the existing fuel tank. I was hoping to add another 4 or 5 gallon for increased range. I was going to purchase a fuel tank from a junkyard so that I could work on different ideas without messing up the tank on my car. I no longer own either of the 09 tdi's I had due to hpfp failures.........................so needless to say I'm not working on this add on fuel tank. If you are interested you can purchase a used tank to experiment with for about $100. I was going to have a custom tank fabbed from aluminum that would fit either into the spare tire space or the space above that. The only trouble with using the space above the spare tire is you would have to come up with a way to access the spare even with the add on tank full of fuel. It would be a cool project but there are lots of details to work out. But thats what makes it interesting.

IMHO, bad idea to have fuel inside the cabin and if it's above the main tank you'd have to have a way for air to escape. No need for one unless you're going into mexico where they don't have ulsd.

My plan was to tie the ad on tank vent ssyen inot the stock tank system. As I said lots of details to work out and it may not even work. As far as range........................it sure was nice when my old 96 Passat wagon would go 1000 miles on one tank of fuel. My best tank was 1,186 miles. Those kind of tanks put a smile on your face!
