The Passat uses Urea injection to reduce NOx Emissions rather than a DPF. I don't know which is cheaper, but the AdBlue solution eliminates the issue of clogging DPF filters and such, and so is most likely a more desirable solution in the long run.

That's probably why they started to make Passats w/AdBlue. The DPF replacement is very expensive. They'll probably start doing that for Golf/Jetta/JSW as well.

I'm about to do my 10,000 miles service, and I asked what it would cost to also replace the fuel filter. They said $85. Should I let them do it, or do it myself?
How much is this filter and where can it be bought?
My vehicle is 2012, so the part number for the filter should be 1k0127434b?

Ittty easy to do yourself if you want, up to you. I'd say that's a fair price though, if you have them do it just make sure to have them document the condition, etc. Especially if there are any metal flakes in there.

Unfortunately, I do not have VAG-COM, so I do not have an easy way to prime the pumps.
I will make sure to have them document the condition, perhaps I will even ask the give me the old filter.

Passat uses AdBlue for NOx _and_ DPF for particulates.

Did my 10,000 miles maintenance today.

Here are the parts numbers:
071-115-562-C FILTERELEM (oil filter)
N-908-132-02 SCREW
G-052-195-1L ENG.OIL
1K0-127-434-B FILTERELEM (fuel filter)
Are they correct?

I paid $87 for the fuel filter replacement, since it wasn't part of this maintenance. I asked them to document the condition, and they wrote: "nothing abnormal noticed in filter or filter housing".

Did they show you the filter and/or housing? At least they put in writing that it was "nothing abnormal" but that leaves a lot of interpretation open on what exactly is "normal" still...
