just bought it brand new, it has less than 200km and my wife called me few minutes ago, the engine wouldnt turn off. I had an old 1984 Merc 190Diesel, which would do that when was very cold and you want to turn off the engine after only few minutes after the first cold start, but now this is a new car and my wife had driven it for 50min before she wanted to shut down the engine. It stopped after 2-3 minutes. Any ideas? Last edited by axios; 01-23-2012 at 09:51 PM. |

No offense but was the key out of the ignition? Do you have KESSY? The car is drive by wire so there's an electrical prob if not shutting down.

I don't know if she took the key out. And what is KESSY? Just talked to her in a bit and she said everything was fine. I am sick of VW. I have had 6 so far and bought this one new, so i dont have to do repair. Its 2ookm and it started. Will buy ugly Corolla finally so i dont have worry anymore. |

The reason I asked this is my wife said the same thing to me after we bought the Jetta. She had about 300 miles on the car and pulled into the garage shutting off the engine. When she was exiting the car she heard what she thought was the engine running with the fans on. She called me into the garage to listen to the car. I said the fans where on to cool off the cooling system since these are electric and will turn off after a preset temperature in the ECM. The "KEYSS" system is keyless ignition and door locks. There is a push button starter and the key fob is either in your pants pocket or your wife's purse. The key just needs to be in the car in order for it to start. Jim W.

My bet is that this was the fan running; especially if the car had done a regen the fan is (IMO) louder than the engine, or so it appears to me. 2-3 minutes is about what I've experienced the fan to run after you turn off the car.

Yeah, this sounds like a cooling fan issue related to a DPF cycle, this is normal...it can really sound like the engine is still running. Dude, don't give up on your VW yet!

What he said! Mine did it the first time at about 250 miles-got out and heard it "running"...thought what the h...? It was just the regen. No problem. Be sure and check this out before thinking the worst....

Yes, regen of the DPF was interrupted. Fans run to prevent melt down of the plastic bits in the engine bay. Normal operation. And now you know the rest of the story.
