Worse, if you have an older iPod or a large capacity new one you might have a mechanical hard drive and starting that up every few minute is going to add a lot of wear and tear to the thing... sold state iPods won't be bothered, of course. This is really a bug; I've contacted VW about it and I'd like to think they will come up with a firmware update but I'm not holding my breath. Anybody not have this problem? Parsnips |

Hi Parsnips,
I had a complimentary service done on my Golf yesterday. I asked for two things to be done: - turn off the beep when locking the car, - disable connected devices autoplay when radio is off (the issue I have is both with the cable or bluetooth connected iPod/iPhone). On the first one, despite instructions on how to achieve this listed on this or some other forum, I've been told that the serviceman was unable to make the software change. This was the easy thing, so my conclusion right away was they have not even touched the second issue. The only explanation I was given is that I am supposed to turn off the music manually on the connected device. So annoying. By the way, this courtesy check took the dealership three hours to be completed. Back to the main subject. In my opinion, as I observe RCD510 behavior, it seems like management of input devices is managed on a layer below the user interface. The only thing you do with the on/off switch is turn the UI and speakers on/off. Otherwise I believe the bluetooth handsfree operation would not work. Therefore, I can see either of the two possibilities for the RCD firmware update: - connect yet do not engage USB and Bluetooth devices, or - upon activation switch to FM radio input. |

Thanks for the information, my first service will be due pretty soon, the 3 hour part is annoying since I had to go 17 miles for a semi-decent VW dealer, the local one being sleazy.

Unfortunately, despite being equipped with the white highline display, the ATA Confirm option is not listed in the Convenience section in my car. |

I wonder if this is isolated to just the RCD510? I have the RNS315 and have tried 2 different iPods; a classic and a touch, and neither just play continuously when plugged into the MDI.

I don't have that option on my 2012 Golf either; I read somewhere else that the option to turn off the alarm beep is now done through vagcom.

No ATA confirm option on my 2011 either even though the manual lists it as an option. VW dealer told me they are unable to disable the ATA confirm using their interface software.
