Unable to edit threads after 3-4 days

Chitty.

I know users can edit their thread for 3-4 days after they make them. Why is the editing blocked after that point? On all the other forums I use threads can be edited threads and they are date and time stamped so you can see when they were done the same as you see on here.

Can this be changed please?

Keith I just tried it on one of the threads I started about 2 weeks ago and I just edited without any bother. Are you sure it's your own post you're trying to edit?

Seatman, only the first post can be edited after a few days.

I thought about this option when setting up the board. The reason why is to prevent vandalism/deletions, and to prevent ninja edits. If something is written and it's not changed after a few days, the author meant it and it'll stay for posterity. If it's a mistake they should be big enough to post a correction. If they have an update the first post in any thread can be edited forever or they can post an update. This way, useful FAQ can be edited at any time. And of course, internet search engine cache many things anyways.

Yes I'm sure Niel because the Edit button is only available on your posts.

I don't know if it prevents vandalism Chitty because users can only edit their posts. There is the option to delete the post in the edit period at the top.

I'm thinking along the lines if you want to add more info rather than making an additional post that makes the thread bigger.

Yes, it makes the thread longer, maybe sometimes unnecessarily but I've seen users delete all their posts or post swears in old posts knowing it won't be read, or do some other strange things. Therefore, I decided to prevent these headaches since it will not greatly affect legitimate users.

Well just remove the delete option, if they want it deleting for what ever reason they PM you?

As regards swearing you should have a list of words in the Admin CP that aren't allowed?

I still want people to have a window to edit their posts. Yes, there is a list of banned words but I don't want people going around the swear filter or changing past info to be wrong, etc. It's rare but it happens.
