Kia sells more than VW? that says a lot..about the economy, about Kia, and about VW...I'm sure Kia wants to expand too, VW doesn't get that people don't want to spend too much on a VW, see: V10 Touareg, Phaeton, W8 Passat. While I'm sure they were good cars, nobody wants to pay $40,000 for a passat when they could buy a base passat in the 20k. Why would anyone buy a Phaeton when the A8 is the same price and better: aluminum body instead of steel, better dealer support and service, more parts availabilty?
